PURPOSE:To obtain an excellent picture by providing one or over of ultrasonic wave vibrators at a center of a piezoelectric vibrator provided with a hole therein and selecting the area of the hole between 1/1000-1/4 time the area of the piezoelectric vibrator so as to improve the lateral resolution of the picture. CONSTITUTION:The titled probe consists of a piezoelectric vibrator 2, an acoustic lens 3 to converge an ultrasonic wave and an acoustic matching layer 4 relaxing the reflection between the piezoelectric vibrator 2 and the acoustic lens 3 due to mismatching of the acoustic impedance, and the hole 5 is formed to the middle part of the piezoelectric vibrator 1. Then the area of the hole is selected between 1/1000-1/4 times the area of the piezoelectric vibrator. Thus, the beam width of an ultrasonic wave is made thin over the entire region of object to be inspected and the picture with excellent lateral resolution is obtained.
