PURPOSE:To obtain a psychological chrominance corresponding to the color of a concrete object on a color television picture observed by a person and sensed psychologically to be equal thereto by using the photometric chrominance of the concrete object on the picture. CONSTITUTION:The light having a photometric chromaticity in red/orange regions on xy chrominance coordinate and radiated from a familiar concrete object on the picture of a color television receiver tube 1 passes through a lens 2 and is made incident on a light receiving section 3. The light receiving section 3 consists of three kinds of filters having spectral transmittivity expressed in color functions x(lambda), y(lambda) and z(lambda). An electric signal corresponding to the photometric chromaticity (x, y) of the concrete object is obtained from a light passing through the light receiving section 3 by a photoelectric conversion section 4. The relation between the photometric chromaticity (x, y) of the familiar concrete object and the psychological chromaticity (x(psy), y(psy)) is expressed as x(psy)=x+0.06 and y(psy)=y-0.01. Then a value corresponding to the psychological chromaticity as expressed in equation is calculated from an output signal from the photoelectric conversion section 4 by a function arithmetic unit 5 and the output of the function arithmetic unit 5 is displayed on a display section 6.
