PURPOSE:To obtain an opalescent glass exhibiting opalescent color by reflection, exhibiting also red-yellow color by transmission, by regulating the ratio of (B2O3+CaO)/(Na2O+K2O+Al2O3) and (CaO+BaO)/(Na2O+K2O), respectively among oxides contained in each specified amt. CONSTITUTION:The above described opalescent glass is constituted of 60-75% SiO2, 4-9% Al2O3, 0.5-15% CaO, 0-8% MgO, 0-10% BaO, 5-20% CaO+ MgO+BaO, 3-14% B2O3, 2-13% Na2O, 0-5% K2O, and 2-13% Na2O+K2O, by weight. Further, the compsn. of the opalescent glass is regulated essentially by >=1.2 weight ratio of (B2O3+CaO)/(Na2O+K2O+Al2O3) and >=1.0 ratio of (CaO+BaO)/(Na2O+K2O). This opalescent glass reflects particulary rays of light in the range from near ultraviolet region to visible region effectively, and transmits effectively the rays of light in the range from visible region to neat infrared region. Accordingly, the glass is effective for preventing decoloration and deterioration of interior products due to light such as solar rays in the range from near ultraviolet region to visible region.
