PURPOSE:To perform the most appropriate color correction, and to improve the quality of a reproduced picture by weighting the error quantity of a respective input data by a different weight, and setting a correction factor. CONSTITUTION:In respect of an inputted chrominance signal, the intensity of every color of R, G, B is divided into three levels, and a color space is divided into the color regions of 3X3X3=27. The histogram of an original picture is formed on the basis of the number of times that the chrominance signal of the respective color region is inputted, and 1/sigmai is set larger for the region where a frequency is large, and the 1/sigmai is set smaller for the region where the frequency is small. Thus, the color correction, suitable of the colored original picture, can be performed. In this case, by making the value of the 1/sigmai larger for the color of a black series near the origin, the black series of the reproduced picture comes clear, and the tight picture can be obtained. The 1/sigmai is the factor of weighting for respective data of a prescribed conversion formula to obtain the respective chrominance signals of R, G, B.
