PURPOSE:To provide the titled catalyst composed of a specific solid component and an organic Al compound and capable of producing a highly stereoregular polymer economically on an industrial scale under stabilized polymerization condition when used in the polymerization of an alpha-olefin. CONSTITUTION:The objective catalyst is composed of (A) a solid component produced by contacting (i) a component obtained by contacting (A) a solid component containing Ti, Mg and a halogen as essential components (e.g. TiCl4, magnesium halide, Si halide, etc.) with (b) an olefin (e.g. ethylene, propylene, etc.) in the presence of (c) an organic Al compound [e.g. Al(C2H5)3, Al(iC4H9)3, etc.] to effect prepolymerization of the monomer, (ii) an Si compound of formula I (R<1> is branched chain hydrocarbon residue; R<2> and R<3> are hydrocarbon residue; 1<=n<=3) (e.g. the compound of formula II) and (iii) and Al compound of formula AlX3 (X is halogen) and (B) an organic Al compound (e.g. trimethylaluminum).
