PURPOSE:To stably produce the objective resin having arbitrary crosslinking degree while suppressing gelling reaction, by reacting a polybasic carboxylic acid with a specific amount of a diol component and polymerizing the product while distilling out water and the diol component. CONSTITUTION:The objective resin can be produced by mixing (A) a >=3-basic carboxylic acid component (e.g. 1,2,4-benzenetricarboxylic acid) accounting for 2-100mol% of the whole carboxylic acid component (abbreviated as acid component), (B) a dibasic carboxylic acid component (e.g. maleic acid) accounting for 98-0mol% of the acid component and (C) a diol component (e.g. ethylene glycol) of an amount satisfying the formula [y is 2x (molar number of the component C)/(molar number of carbonyl group in the acid component); x is (molar number of carbonyl group in the component A)/(molar number of carbonyl group in the acid component)], reacting the components with each other under heating, removing generated water, etc., from the system, polymerizing the product under -150mmHg pressure, increasing the pressure and distilling out the component C.
