PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency in a KANA(Japanese syllabary)/KANJI (Chinese character) conversion by rearranging one word of paired words to the leading candidate of homonyms when the other word of the paired words is selected. CONSTITUTION:A KANA character string is inputted from a keyboard 1 and an object word is selected in user homonyms from a displayed KANJI character string. The word selected by the user is rearranged so as to come to the leading part of the homonyms in a dictionary storing means 4 by a dictionary updating means 5. Wether the selected word is a word having a paired word, namely a pair word or not is decided by seeing a pair word table 6 and when it is the pair word, a dictionary in which the paired word of the selected word is stored is updated by the dictionary updating means 5. For instance, the word 'ZENSHA' (the former in English) is selected to the KANA string of 'ZENSHA', a 'KOSHA' (the latter in English) can be rearranged to the leading part in the dictionary in which the homonyms of 'KOSHA' are stored.
