PURPOSE:To obtain in high efficiency a hydrocarbon oil abundant in benzene, toluene and xylenes, by bringing a heavy aromatic hydrocarbon oil into contact with hydrogen using a specific crystalline metal silicate catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The objective hydrocarbon oil can be obtained by bringing (A) a heavy aromatic hydrocarbon oil containing >=9C alkyl-substituted benzene into contact with (B) hydrogen pref. at 300-450 deg.C under 1-20kg/cm<2>G at a weight space velocity 0.2-10hr<-1> and in the molar ratio A/B=2-20, using a catalyst prepared by incorporating a metal having hydrogenation or hydrocracking activity (optimally, cobalt or nickel) into the crystal structure during the synthesis of a crystalline silicate. To prepare said catalyst, a hydrothermal reaction is carried out, generally between a silica source, hydrogenation (hydrocracking) activity-carrying metal source and, if needed, alumina source in the presence of an organic additive such as aminoalcohol. |
