PURPOSE:To aim at abatement in fuel consumption, by closing a reciprocating type exhaust rotary valve before a scavenging port of a reciprocating internal combustion engine is closed. CONSTITUTION:A reciprocating type exhaust rotary valve 15 interlocking with a reciprocating internal combustion engine 10 is installed in an exhaust pipe 7. A timing belt 13 is laid across between the timing pulley 8 installed concentrically with a crankshaft 9 of the internal combustion engine 10 the timing pulley 14 installed concentrically with a crankshaft 12 of the exhaust rotary valve 15. An exhaust port 7b of the exhaust rotary valve 15 is closed before a scavenging port 6 is closed. With this constitution, such a possibility that an unburnt air-fuel mixture is bypassed and discharged to the atmosphere is preventable, thus a rate of fuel consumption is improvable.
