PURPOSE:To freely set key word and to retrieve information at a high speed by comparing a retrieving key word designated by an operator with the registered keyword which shifts one by one in each cycle to said retrieving key word and retrieving the information. CONSTITUTION:An information retrieving device contains a memory means (a) storing the registered character string showing the contents of a data base (f), a designating means (b) for the key word to be retrieved, a character string updating means (c) which shifts the registered character string read successively out of the means (a) based on the designation of the means (b) every word in each cycle, a comparison means (d) which compares the key word designated by the means (b) with the character string to be successively updated by the means (c) and outputs at least a coincidence signal when the coincidence is obtained from said comparison, and an output means (e) which outputs the data to be retrieved from the base (f) in response to the coincidence signal outputted from the means (d). It such a way, the retrieving key word designated by an operator is compared with the registered key word that shifts every word in each cycle. Thus the key word is freely set and the information is retrieved at a high speed.
