PURPOSE:To obtain the optimum spray coat layer with the optimization of spray coating powder supply, fuel gas flow rate and moving speed, by positively determining the state in preheating, remelting and completion of remelting with respect to a surface to be spray coated of a base material by a temperature detecting means, a bright line spectrum detecting means and the like. CONSTITUTION:A spray gun 10 is set at a spray starting point P1 of a base material 1, jets a fuel gas 14 to preheat a surface 2 to be spray coated and temperature measured with a temperature detector 20 is converted into an output signal with a converter 21 to be inputted into a spray coating state judging device 80, which is previously given the upper and lower limit values of preheating setting temperature as judging conditions. If temperature actually measured with the detector 20 is low, the preheating is continued. But if it is high, powder of a self-melting alloy is dripped to form an attached spray coat layer 3 on the surface 2 being spray coated. Thereafter, remelting is performed to deposit the spray coat layer 3 and the base material 1. Here, a glass based blend of B, Si and the like among components floats on the surface of a spray metal 4 to generate a peculiar bright line spectrum. This spectrum is detected with a photosensor 66 and analyzed with the device 80 to judge the completion of remelting.
