PURPOSE:To accurately control both the fuel injection timing and ignition timing classified by cylinders, by combining the crank angle signal directly detected by a crankshaft and the signal detected at the camshaft side together. CONSTITUTION:On the outer circumferential surface of a pulse plate 2, there are formed with notches 21-24 showing a compression top dead center position of each cylinder, in case of a 4-cylinder engine by way of example, and a first magnet pickup 4 is being set up in close vicinity to these notches. And, notches 31-34, discriminating each cylinder, are formed in the side of a cam pulley 3 to be driven via a timing belt, and a second magnet pickup 5 is set up in close vicinity to these notches likewise. When a crankshaft 1 is rotated, a crank signal and a cam signal are detected each by these magnet pickups 4 and 5. These signals are processed by a control unit, whereby the top dead center position classified by each cylinder is discriminated, thus both of fuel injection timing and ignition timing are accurately detected.
