PURPOSE:To prevent erroneous display even if a video signal and a code signal exist in mixture in a memory by discriminating the information read from the memory, applying processing corresponding to the result of discrimination, supplying and reproducing it on a monitor. CONSTITUTION:When a system controller 14 of an image pickup section 1 discriminates the recording mode, the information stored in a frame memory 7 is discriminated as to whether or not it is a code signal, and in case of the code signal, an identification signal is added. The signal is fed to a modulator 21 of a disk recording section connected to the image pickup section 1 and when it is discriminated to be the pickup signal, the signal is fed to the modulator 21 via a D/A converter 9 and a recording signal processing section 19 and recorded on a disk 20 being a memory. Then in case of the reproduction mode, the kind of signal reproduced from the disk 20 is discriminated by the system controller 14 based on the identification signal and video information read from the recording section 2 and the output of a character generator 58 in response to the code signal are fed to an adder circuit 54, and the video and character are displayed on a monitor 10 without error even when both the signals exist in mixture.
