PURPOSE:To improve the accuracy of test by applying recording/reproduction having a high frequency and recording/reproduction having a low frequency continuously to each track so as to conduct the measurement at both frequencies at sectors close to each other in conducting the test of plural track heads of a magnetic tape. CONSTITUTION:A read head RH and a write head WH of the system are connected respectively to amplifier circuits 1R-3R and 1W-3W, and the plural heads RH, WH are arranged corresponding to plural tracks 1T, 2T, 3T... on the magnetic tape. Moreover, the heads RH, WH are connected to a control processor 3 via a head changeover circuit 2. A frequency changeover circuit 5 is connected between the processor 3 and the heads RH, WH, and the circuit 5 is connected to an oscillator 4 oscillating a high frequency HF and a low frequency LF. Then the circuit 5 switches the recording/reproducing frequency, the test of the tracks 1T, 2T, 3T... of the magnetic tape is conducted by using the high frequency HF and the low frequency LF to execute the test at sectors close to each other thereby improving the accuracy of test.
