PURPOSE:To hold the object of image-forming so that an image-forming surface thereof is held to a predetermined height regardless of the size and thickness of the object of image-forming, by a method wherein the thickness of the object of image-forming is detected according to the amount of movement of a means for holding the object of image-forming and one end of the image-forming surface of the object of image-forming to the predetermined height and the other end thereof is regulated in height according to the thickness of the object of image-forming. CONSTITUTION:A reference member 31 fixed on a movable stage 22 is provided with actuators 25a and 25b driving a sucking mount base 32 vertically. The sucking mount base 32 having a plurality of suction holes 35 on the upper surface thereof holds by the suction a printed board 13a smaller than the sucking mount base 32 by changing over chambers 36 in the sucking mount base 32. A clamping member 37 pinches one peripheral edge portion of the printed board 13a other than an image-forming area with the upper end surface of the mount 32 due to the shrinkage of an actuator 39, whereby an abutting surface 37a of the claming member 37 is held to a predetermined height from the movable stage 22.
