A combustion turbine compressor diaphragm which has an outer shroud 30, an inner shroud 32 and radial vanes 20 disposed therebetween is provided with a channel-shaped boxed seal 30 support structure affixed to the inner surface of the inner shroud. The base 50 of the seal support structure includes a plurality of grooves 46 for receiving seal strips 48 which may be rolled into position and mechanically locked, such as by peening. Because the radial thickness of the seal support base may be increased over that of the inner shroud, the box seal increases the flexibility of seal design and improves the structural rigidity of the inner shroud.
