PURPOSE:To manufacture an alloy thermal spraying material for a vessel made of steel forming a film excellent in peeling characteristic from an iron powder, by preparing an alloy powder by incorporating specific percentages of Si and Cr to Al. CONSTITUTION:The alloy powder consisting of, by weight, 0.5-12% Si, 3-30% Cr, and the balance Al with inevitable impurities and containing, if necessary, 2-20% Fe is prepared. When this Al alloy is thermally sprayed as a thermally spraying material on the surface of a steel sheet and then melting treatment is applied to the above at about 1,000-1,200 deg.C in a nonoxidizing atmosphere, a film of >=about 1,200 deg.C m.p. is formed on the steel-sheet surface because the diffusion of Al into the steel sheet is inhibited by Si and Cr, so that Al2O3 excellent in peeling characteristic from iron powder in a nonoxidizing atmosphere at >=about 1,000 deg.C can be formed on the film surface. In this way, a protective film having superior peeling characteristic from iron powder can be formed on the steel sheet surface of the vessel made of steel, and, at the time of heat-treating a ferroalloy powder in this vessel, seizure between the vessel and the iron powder can be prevented.
