PURPOSE:To prevent a fixing roll from overheat burning even if an application means is wound around the fixing roll by arranging a protecting means for interrupting current supply to a heat source in the vicinity of the fixing roll and on the outside of the width of the application means in the axial direction of the fixing roll. CONSTITUTION:A temperature detector 12 turns on and off a fixing roll heating heater 13 in accordance with the detection of the surface temperature of the fixing roll 1 and a temperature protector 14 to be a protecting means is fused when the fixing roll 1 is heated up to an abnormal high temperature to stop power supply to the heater 13. The protector 14 is arranged in the vicinity of the fixing roll 1 and on the outside of a cleaning web 8 in the axial direction of the fixing roll 1. Even if the cleaning web 8 is wound around the fixing roll 1, the protector 14 can display a function for detecting the accurate temperature of the fixing roll 1. Consequently, the fixing device can be surely protected from an abnormal temperature.
