PURPOSE:To reduce the generation of aberration by visualizing a change in the optical characteristics of an electrostatically charged oil film by Schlieren method and displaying its image. CONSTITUTION:A change in the optical characteristics of the charged oil film 16 is visualized by Schlieren method to display its image. Namely, the oil film 16 is charged by radiating electrons from an electron generating source 15, and at the time of impressing an electric field from a transparent electrode film 17, the oil film 16 is deformed to a prescribed pattern corresponding to the capacity of charge and a refractive index on the surface is slightly changed. Light led from an optical system arranged on the prestage is made incident upon the 1st window 21 formed on a vacuum container 20 and reached to a reflector 19, the light passed through the deformed part of the oil film 16 is difracted on the reflector 19 to change its advancing direction and the light passed through an undeformed part maintains its original parallel state. These light beams are reflected by a mirror surface 18, and projected from the 2nd window 22 to form its image on a screen 11 of the optical system arranged on the post stage. Since the oil film 16 and the mirror surface 18 are laminated with a slight interval, the generation of aberration is reduced.
