PURPOSE:To correct the thermal ununiformity of a roll and to prevent the generation of mechanical deformation by rotating the roll at 2nd speed lower than fixing speed during a period up to the arrival at the fixing temperature, and after arrival at the fixing temperature, stopping the rotation of the roll. CONSTITUTION:A heat roll 8 is rotated at the 2nd speed lower than 1st speed until the heat roll 8 reaches the fixed temperature after turning on power supply, and when the roll 8 reaches the fixed temperature and a temperature sensor is driven, power supply to a heater 9 is interrupted and signal input to a motor control TR 2 is stopped. Thereby, a DC servo is stopped. When copying operation and fixing operation are not executed, the heat roll 8 is controlled so as to be rotated at the 2nd speed only for a prescribed period. When both copying and fixing operations are executed, the heat roll 8 is controlled so as to be rotated at the 1st speed. Since the roll 8 is intermittently rotated during the non-fixing operation, the thermal ununiformity of the roll 8 is compensated and the generation of mechanical deformation can be prevented.
