PURPOSE:To (co)polymerize an olefin in the presence of a prepolymerization catalyst formed by prepolymerizing an olefin using a solid catalyst component carrying a group IVB transition metal compound of the periodic table on a carrier and an aluminoxane. CONSTITUTION:An olefin is (co)polymerized in the presence of an olefin prepolymerization catalyst formed by prepolymerizing an olefin using a catalyst consisting of (A) a solid catalyst component carrying a group IVB transition metal compound of the periodic table, e.g. bis(cyclopentadineyl)zirconium monochloride monohydride, et., on a carrier (SiO2, Al2O3, etc., are normally used as the carrier) and (B) an aluminoxane, e.g. a compound expressed by formula I or II (R is hydrocarbon; m is >=2), etc. This catalyst is capable of polymerizing copolymers having a narrow molecular weight and component distribution with excellent polymerization activity. |
