PURPOSE:To produce a high performance magnet material having superior intrasurface magnetic characteristics by melting an alloy having a specified compsn. consisting of Fe, rare earth elements, B and Si, spraying the molten alloy on the surface of a rotating body made of a metal and solidifying the sprayed alloy by rapid cooling. CONSTITUTION:An alloy having a compsn. represented by a formula Fe100-a-b-cRaBbSic or Fe100-a-b-c-xRaBb(Sic.Ald)x (where R is Y and rare earth elements including at least one of Nd and Pr, a=10-15% by atom, b=4-10%, c=0.4-3.0%, d=0.1-3.0% and x=0.5-3.5%) is melted. Co may be substd. for <=20% of Fe in the alloy. The molten alloy is sprayed on the surface of a rotating body made of a metal such as a single roll rotating at 15-30m/sec surface peripheral speed and the sprayed alloy is solidified by rapid cooling. Thus, a high performance magnet material made of a thin strip having intrasurface oriented axes of easy magnetization is obtd.
