PURPOSE:To obtain the titled glass fiber mat having excellent waterproofness and heat resistance without losing moldability, by impregnating expandable asphalt into glass fibers and foaming. CONSTITUTION:Glass filaments, for example, are needle punched to give glass fiber mat, which is impregnated with expandable asphalt containing a foaming agent, then heated, foamed and cooled to give the fiber mat containing the asphalt. Since the foam is made by simultaneous molding and expanding, moldability is not hindered. Since the obtained foam has better waterproofness and heating insulating properties than the existing foam prepared from impregnated phenolic resin, the foam is suitable for use in, such as automobile parts, molded insulating material.
