PURPOSE:To surely identify the existence of optical signal transmission in a single core by inclining the inside faces of a slit and using the inclined faces as reflecting faces. CONSTITUTION:A tape core reference device 8 constituted by moving a light shielding body 13 having a slit 12 in the width direction of a tape core 7, making leaked light from the tape core 7 upon the slit 12 in each single core 2 and receiving and sensing the incident light is capable of identifying which single core out of plural ones in the core 7 transmits an optical signal. Since the inside faces 18, 18 of the slit 12 are inclined and mirrors 19, 19 are fixed to the inclined faces, light leaked from the single cores 2 other than the objective single core 2 to be referred can be prevented from being made incident on the slipt 12 and only the leaked light from the objective single core 2 can be referred, so that the existence of optical signal transmission in the objective single core 2 can be surely identified.
