A racquet 10 has a continuously undulated area 16 at a predetermined location on the shaft 14, such that the bottom of the undulated area acts as point of flexion for the outswing. This point is easily recognizable from the appearance of the racquet. As a result of stress concentration, the undulated area can store a potential energy which is greater than in a conventional racquet, and the release of the potential energy will afford greater striking force. When the ball is struck, there is also a deformation in the undulated area, which is greater than in a conventionally designed racquet, the degree of outswing thus increasing, the duration of impact between the incoming ball and the strung surface of the racquet is lengthened, and ball control is improved. <IMAGE>
