PURPOSE:To obtain narrow spacing in wide range where high density recording is attained without damaging a recording medium by providing a groove obtained by altering a cross-sectional area in the direction of the width of a sliding surface. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic head slider has the sliding surfaces 1 and 2 which are separated by a sliding surface separating groove 3 whose widths are parallel and depth is constant, and one sliding surface 1, where magnetic cores 5 (5a-5d) are buried, is divided into three surfaces by the groove 6, provided adjacently to the magnetic cores 5, whose depth is constant and width is changeable. Two magnetic head sliders are arranged opposite to the recording medium and when the recording medium runs in the direction of an arrow A, the pressure in the groove becomes more negative than that of periphery because of the action of airflow which flows along the groove 6 and the recording medium runs tightly close to the magnetic cores 5. Thus, since the magnetic cores 5 can stably run with keeping the narrow spacing with the recording medium without excessively pressing from the sliding surface 2 of another slider, the high density recording can be possible.
