TONER FOR DEVELOPING ELECTROSTATIC CHARGE IMAGE

PURPOSE:To obtain a toner for developing an electrostatic charge image with superior fixability by chemically bonding chargeability controlling groups to the surfaces of toner particles so as to control the chargeability without exerting unfavorable influence on the characteristics of the resin of the toner. CONSTITUTION:A toner having about 7-30mum average particle size is formed using a binding resin having functional groups. The resin has about 100-170 deg.C softening point and about 40-110 deg.C glass transition point. The functional groups present on the surfaces of the toner particles are reacted with a compound having a chargeability controlling group to chemically bond chargeability controlling groups to the surfaces of the toner particles. For example, diethanolamine or CF3OH is added to a toner made of a (co)polymer of (meth)acrylic acid, and it is reacted with carboxyl groups present on the surface of the toner to chemically bond chargeability controlling groups such as amino groups or fluoroalkyl groups.
