PURPOSE:To maintain lubricity over a wide temp. range while preventing generation of blooming, etc., and to improve running stability, wear resistance, etc., by making combination use of a fatty acid ester of >=5 deg.C m.p. and >=12C and fatty acid ester of <5 deg.C m.p. and >=12C as a lubricating agent. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic layer essentially consisting of ferromagnetic powder and binder is formed on a nonmagnetic base. This magnetic layer holds the fatty acid ester of >=5 deg.C m.p. and >=12C and the fatty acid ester of <5 deg.C m.p. and >=12C at 2:8-8:2 ratios by weight. The one fatty acid ester which has high m.p. exhibits excellent lubricity in a high temp. region and another fatty acid ester which has low m.p. exhibits an excellent lubricating characteristic in a low temp. region if two kinds of the fatty acid esters having the different m.p. are used as the lubricating agent. The magnetic recording medium with which the lubricity is maintained over a wide temp. range and which has the excellent running stability, wear resistance, etc., is thereby obtd.
