A cupboard door (5) is held closed by a rod (3) operated catch of the type used on french windows. The actuating rod has an end cap (6) which engages a bracket (14) fixed to the cupboard floor. The end cap has a lateral projection with a cylindrical end piece (7). This end piece fits in a socket (8) attached to the door. The end cap can be swung about the end piece which, together with the socket, functions as a hinge.
