The invention relates to a process for treating a free-flowing mixture containing a liquid phase, in particular an aqueous suspension or an aqueous solution. For the purpose of removing and/or inactivating certain constituents of the mixture, this is converted into a state of high kinetic energy and subjected to a high acceleration in such a manner that all constituents of the mixture move in a three-dimensional, closed, loop-like path. After quasi-steady-state conditions occur, the mixture is then passed through at least one tank covered with growing plants and/or filled with soil.
