PREPARATION OF CATALYST FOR PURIFYING EXHAUST GAS

PURPOSE:To enable the inexpensive production of the titled catalyst, by a method wherein the outer peripheral wall surface of an integral structured carrier is coated with an extensible thin film while an alumina film is formed only on the surfaces of a large number of flowlines in the carrier not coated with said thin film and a catalytic substance is adhered onto said alumina film. CONSTITUTION:The outer peripheral wall surface of an integral structured carrier 4 such as a ceramic hobeycomb carrier is coated with a extensible thin film 2 comprising soft natural rubber or the like and an alumina film is formed only on the surfaces of a large number of flowlines in the carrier not coated with said thin film 2 while a catalytic substance is adhered to said alumina thin film. By this method, the adhesion of the catalytic substance to the outer peripheral wall of the integral structured carrier unnecessary in the purification of exhaust gas can be effectively prevented while the catalytic substance to be used in the purification of exhaust gas can be suppressed to a reduced amount and the production of the low cost catalyst for exhaust gas is enabled.
