PURPOSE:To drastically cut down the size of a memory used for signal processing by observing the state of a signal at every prescribed quantity of information, and applying a variable pit drop in accordance with the result of said observation to the respective parts of the signal in the last position of said prescribed information quantity. CONSTITUTION:Average square error signals outputted from an average square error signal detection circuit 38 are stored in a memory 41, the state of one- picture-share of signals is observed by a signal observation circuit 39 by using one-picture-share of the average square error signals outputted from the circuit 38, and observation result signals are supplied to a threshold setting circuit 40. A coding mode setting circuit 42 selects a threshold depending on which one of first-third areas the average square error signals read out from the memory 41 belong, and supplies the result to an adaptive type representative point integration circuit 43. In such a way, the variable pit drop is executed in accordance with a prescribed threshold set by the circuit 42, and thus the data is reduced. |
