ALUMINUM POLYOXYCHLORIDE BONDED CASTABLE REFRACTORY

A refractory ceramic composition suitable for use as a castable refractory consisting essentially of a slurry of ceramic particles admixed with an aluminum polyoxychloride bonding agent. The bonding agent is the reaction product of aluminum polyoxychloride and a curing agent which is capable of supplying alkalinizing ions to the aluminum polyoxychloride. Such composition may be cast into a mold and permitted to harden in the mold. The casting is subsequently removed from the mold.
