PURPOSE:To facilitate the excitation of siphon, to use a siphon having a large inner diameter and to perform the backwashing of a filter material within a short time using a large amount of a liquid to be filtered, by together providing two siphon pipes having a small inner diameter to the highest part of a backwashing discharge siphon pipe. CONSTITUTION:In a quick filtering apparatus wherein the level of the liquid flowing out to an external control tank 3 through a siphon pipe 12 is detected to stop and operate a liquid feed pump 5 and backwashing is controlled, two siphon pipes 18, 19 having an inner diameter smaller than that of a liquid feed pipe 6 of a liquid to be filtered are respectively allowed to communicate with the highest part of the siphon pipe 12 at one end thereof so that the communication part of one of the siphon pipes 18,19 occupies a position higher than that of the other one and the other end of the siphon pipe 19 higher in position is brought into communication with the other siphon pipe 18 through an ejector 20. By this constitution, even when the inner diameter of the siphon pipe 12 is made large, siphon action can be excited without changing the capacity of the liquid feed pump 5.
