PURPOSE:To make a line or a character obvious for recognition by providing a black color detector to identify that an inputted image is black or close to black in color. CONSTITUTION:The amplitudes of the colors of respective three chrominance signals from an input device 1 are checked. That these colors are black or close to black is identified by that their amplitudes are all smaller than a prescribed amplitude. In case such identifications are executed, a switcher 22 outputs the black color output of a black color output device 21 to an output device 3. By an output from a black color output device 4, an output device 6 is made output such a chrominance sight that maximum densities are obtained for respective colors of Y, M, C. As a result, the output device 6 of such as a color printer enables the printing/displaying with black color by superposing the signals of high density in three primary (subtractive) colors.
