A method and an apparatus for pneumatically conveying material to be conveyed in a tube-like conveying line into which compressed gas is introduced from a connection line are improved in that, in the case of a pressure increase in the conveying line, in the conveying direction before the connection line or its mouth, the conveying line is opened for air feed from a secondary line at high pressure, and in that, in the case of pressure equalisation in the conveying line in the region before and after the mouth of the connection line, this air feed into the conveying line is interrupted. For this purpose, a slide is provided as a control element in the connection line, blocks the latter in a basic position and is arranged in a flow space between a first and a second sensor line, the other end of each of which sensor lines opens, at a different side to the connection line, into the conveying line and is connected, via a throttle section, to that segment of the connection line leading to the secondary line.
