PURPOSE:To enhance the coating adhesion of a wash coat layer and to activate a supported catalyst, by forming a large number of small holes to a base material becoming a catalyst carrier such as a metal and subsequently forming the wash coat layer on the surface of the base material and the inner surfaces of the small holes. CONSTITUTION:A large number of small holes 23 having a hole size of about 0.1-2mm are formed on a base material 21 composed of ferrite stainless steel containing aluminum so as to piece said base material 21. When a wash coat layer 25 is formed on the surface of the base material 21 and the inner surfaces of the small holes 23, the wash coat layer 25 on one surface side of the base material 21 continues to that of the other surface side thereof and release is prevented and the close adhesiveness to the base material 21 is enhanced. Further, the geometrical surface area of the wash coat layer 25 increases and the sufficient activation of a catalyst is achieved. |
