PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium having high adhesive properties and durability with large VTR still time by irradiating an electron beam having the beam current density higher than a specific level to a ferromagnetic material which is charged by an evaporation source and vapor depositing a ferromagnetic metallic thin film on a base material. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical can 3 is set within a vacuum tank 1, and a flexible base material 5 such as plastic, etc. is fed to a take-up roll 6 from a feed roll 4 along the can 3. At the same time, an electron beam 10 having >=0.1A/cm<2> current density is irradiated to a ferromagnetic material 7 such as Fe-Co, etc. from an electron gun 9. Thus a ferromagnetic thin film is formed on the material 5. The beam current density is obtained by dividing the beam current by the area of a spot of the beam 10 formed at an irradiation point 11 of the material 7 of an evaporation source. Thus it is possible to produce a magnetic recording medium which excels in the adhesive properties and durability with no exfoliation.
