PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic coated film in which magnetic powder is uniformly dispersed and which has good mechanical strength and solvent resistance by using a vinyl chloride/vinylidene chloride copolymer having a specific monomer compsn. as a binder of the magnetic powder. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic coated film prepd. by dispersing the magnetic powder into the vinyl chloride/vinylidene chloride copolymer consisting, respectively wt% based on the total amt. of monomer units, 60-90 vinyl chloride unit, of 5-35 vinylidene chloride nit, 1-10 monomer unit contg. a hydroxyl group, 1-10 acrylamide unit or the N-substitution product thereof, and 0-15 copolymerizable unit is formed on a nonmagnetic base. The uniform dispersion of the magnetic powder is attained by the above-mentioned copolymer in which the monomer unit contg. the hydroxyl group and the acrylamide unit or the N-substitution product thereof are made to co-exist. The high-quality magnetic recording medium is thus obtd. The uniform dispersion is obtd. as well and the magnetic coated film having the excellent mechanical strength and solvent resistance is formed even if fine iron power or barium ferrite is used.
