PURPOSE:To remarkably increase the number of kinds of a pallet data under a condition that a total storage capacity is maintained constant by putting together the color component data of n/2 bits, selected and outputted by the first selector, and the color component data of n/2 bits, selected and outputted by the second selector, into a lump, and outputting it as the pallet data of n bits. CONSTITUTION:A first pallet memory M1 and a second pallet memory M2 have respectively the storage capacity of 2<m-1> words X n bits, and store the pallet data by dividing them into the color component data of n/2 bits of a higher rank and of n/2 bits of a lower rank of a storage area to constitute one word by n bits, and the memory M1 is accessed by considering b/2-1 bits among n/2 bits of the higher rank in the picture data of n bits to be an address signal, and the memory M2 is accessed by considering n/2-1 bits among n/2 bits of the lower rank to be the address signal. A selector circuit 4 selects one of the color component data of the higher rank and of the lower rank outputted from the pallet memories M1, M2, and outputs them as the pallet data of n bits after putting them together into a lump.
