PURPOSE:To manufacture a seawater resistant steel material usable widely in a severe environment contg. salt by adding specified percentages of C, Si, Mn, Al, P, S and Cr to Fe. CONSTITUTION:A steel material consisting of <=1.0% C, <=0.25% Si, <=2.0% Mn, 7.0-20.0% Al, <=0.015% P, <=0.005% S, >5.5-15.5% Cr and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities is manufactured. The steel material may further contain one or more among 0.0001-0.005% B and 0.01-0.5% in total of Ti, V, Nb, W, Co and Mo and/or 0.1-5.5% Cu and/or Ni. Since the steel material contains large amts. of Al and Cr, a rigid passive film is produced on the steel material in an environment in which the material is exposed to salt at high concn., so the formation of rust is nearly prevented and the corrosion of the steel material is perfectly inhibited.
