PURPOSE:To obtain a medium which has good recording sensitivity and obviates deterioration in the magnetic characteristics with lapse of time by superposing a metallic film, transparent dielectric film, perpendicular magnetized film and high resistance metallic film on a transparent substrate and disposing the contact part between the metallic film and the high resistance metallic film adjacently to the end face of the perpendicular magnetized film. CONSTITUTION:The transparent dielectric film 2 consisting of ZnS, etc., and having a high refractive index is deposited by evaporation on the grooved transparent glass substrate 1 and the perpendicularly magnetized amorphous rare earth transition metal film 3 is deposited thereon by evaporation. A Cr film 4 is deposited by evaporation adjacently to the end face of the film 3 so as not to contact the film 3. The high resistance film 5 consisting of SiCr4, etc., is then deposited by evaporation to cover the films 3, 4. A coating material 6 is coated on the film 5. The magneto-optical recording medium having a long life is quickly obtd. if the perpendicularly magnetized amorphous rare earth transition metal film is enveloped by the high resistance film and the Cr film in the above-mentioned manner.
