PURPOSE:To read even a commodity which can not be turned upside down by reading a bar code with the aid of the optical system of a case body with a translucent window facing upwards or the optical system of a hand scanner with the translucent window facing downwards. CONSTITUTION:The translucent window 2 attached with a glass plate is built on the upper surface of the case body 1, and a PLU key board 4 is held on a pillar 3 built at the side of the case body, and a holder 9 to hold the hand scanner 7 freely detachably in the state that its translucent window 8 is made to face downwards, is fixed on the side surface of the key board 4. Usually, the bar code 27 of the commodity 26 is read by the photoelectric converting part of the case body 1. At the case the commodity 26, the bar code label 27 of which can not be turned downwards, the bar code 27 of this commodity 26, as it faces upwards, is brought close to the translucent window 8 of the hand scanner 7, which read the contents of the bar code label 27.
