PURPOSE:To instantaneously grasp an editing state and a column layout setting part at the time of a tabulation on the way of the preparation and the edition of a text by maintaining a column layout setting area in a separated state from an editing screen. CONSTITUTION:When a column layout setting mode is started by pushing down a column key, on the way of a text editing, a line feed code 40 before a text cursor K is searched, and the line, next to the line with the line feed code 40, is displayed at the fifth line of a screen, and at the same time, the sequential fifteen lines portion is displayed on the screen. In the first line of the screen, the message of COLUMN LAYOUT is displayed being reversed, and after the text cursor K, the input area of which is the third line, is displayed at the head position of the third line, the scanning of the key at the time of the column layout setting mode is performed. Accordingly, the column layout can be set under the separated state from the text, and the screen can be always kept in a well-regulated state.
