PURPOSE:To decrease the amt. of a solidifying agent to be added and to reduce treating cost in the stage of adding water glass and a solidifying auxiliary to sludge cake contg. slaked lime and solidifying the cake by kneading the cake in a carbon dioxide atmosphere prior to addition of the water glass, etc. CONSTITUTION:Sludge cake contg. slaked lime is ground in an atmosphere of carbon dioxide or gas contg. carbon dioxide to form calcium carbonate prior to addition of water glass in the stage of adding the water glass or the water glass and its solidifying auxiliary to the cake and kneading the sludge to solidify the cake. Sodium sulfate, etc. are used as the solidifying auxiliary, and the water glass is added at about 7-8wt% if the cake contains 75% water. The solidified cake obtd. by such method has hardness of about >=1kg/cm<2> and is usable for land to be reclaimed.
