PURPOSE:To prevent the state of a message unset by mistake from generating by allowing a voice from a telephone set to inform whether or not message data is set after the message data is set/reset from the telephone set. CONSTITUTION:A control section 7 detects whether or not fetched data is data requesting the setting/resetting of the message data and in case of YES, the corresponding data is referred to the said telephone set in the area 32 in the main memory 8 and whether or not the message data is set is detected. When a dial tone is returned, the unsetting of the message dada and when a special tone is returned, the setting of the message data is informed surely even in a telephone set without a visual display device such as a standard telephone set 3. Thus, the state of the unset message is prevented.
