PURPOSE:To suppress power consumption at a low level by scanning plural keys only at the time of key operation. CONSTITUTION:The titled device is provided with a key detecting means for outputting a detecting signal to a microcomputer 1 when at least one key out of plural ones is depressed. When all of the plural keys 2 are not depressed, the microcomputer 1 outputs an 'L' level signal to the plural keys, and when any one of the plural keys is depressed, outputs the 'L' level signal successively to the plural keys on the basis of a detecting signal outputted from the key detecting means to scan the plural keys. Consequently, the power consumption of a CPU used for the keyboard device can be suppressed at a low level and the device is extremely effective for a CMOS microcomputer.
