PURPOSE:To aim at reducing vertical oscillation and pitching of a ship due to waves, by forming an external water communicating port having an area smaller than that of a water section in a column, in the lower section of the column having its center section which is submerged in the water. CONSTITUTION:A center internal water section 3 and internal water sections 4 adjacent to the front and rear of the former are defined by partitioning walls 2a, 2b in a column 2 coupled to the upper section of a submerged body 1. Water introduction ports 5, 5a as communication ports for the external water are formed in the lower sections of the internal water sections 3, 4, having cross-sectional areas which are smaller than that of the water sections 3, 4. When the hull vertically oscillates, a phase difference occurs due to variations in water level between the water surface of the center internal water section 3 and the external water surface 17, allowing a damping effect for the vertical oscillation of the ship to be produced. The front and rear internal water sections 4 produces a damping effect for pitching due to the action similar to that of the center internal water section 3. Thereby it is possible to effectively reduce the vertical oscillation and pitching due to waves.
