A process for extraction of soluble substances from fibrous material by pressing and macerating, suitable for extraction of sugar from cane, consists of preparing an uncompacted layer of the material; pressing it between two surfaces, one o which is perforated, to remove he extracted liquid through the openings; relieving the pressure and wetting the material rapidly as it re-expands so that the voids of the layer become filled; conveying the layer to a succeeding station, where this liquid is extracted and recycled in contra-flow to the advancing direction of the layer, to be used as the wetting liquid in an earlier station. This process is repeated a number of times between successive pairs of pressing rollers, the extraction liquid moving in contraflow to the fibres layer.
|
