A coating device comprises a slit shaped channel 1 through which sheet material can be passed the channel walls having slots 2, 3 through which coating material can pass from channels 11, 12 which slots are adjustable. As shown the slit is made up of parts 4, 6 and 5, 7. The separate halves on each side are held together by a bolt 8 and the gap between the opposite ends forming the slot is adjustable by bolts 15 and 16. To adjust the slot bolt 15 is set as a stop and a nut 17 is turned on bolt 16 until the part 4 strikes the end of bolt 15. A pointer on bolt 15 shows the selected slot adjustment on a scale 19. The slit 1 is adjustable by bolts 14 and a handle 22. The slots 2 and 3 are elastically deformable over their length to provide a variation in coating application over the width of the sheet. In a modification only one coating slot is provided and the other side of the slit 1 is provided by either an elastically deformable metal slit wall with heating means therein or a strip of resilient material.</p> |
